Psychotherapy & EMDR

Why Counselling?

Counselling offers the opportunity to talk about problems in a safe and confidential environment. A Counsellor is impartial and non-judgemental and can listen to the whole story without being hurt or offended and can help you explore the problem, develop strategies and support you through the situation, and arrive at the best solution for you.

"it is estimated 1 in 5 women experiences some level of anxiety, stress or depression after giving birth."

Why Psychotherapy and EMDR?

Psychotherapy offers an opportunity to look at issues in the present, which may have roots in the past. Being pregnant, giving birth and becoming a new parent can raise unexpected feelings, which may have been hidden for years. A sense of being out of control may have left you feeling Traumatised. Fear of Labour, together with issues such as the stress of looking after a baby, hormonal changes after pregnancy and, money or relationship problems.

Women who have endured particularly complicated Labours can experience distress serious enough to be classed as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Life with your new baby may be more of a struggle than you had imagined. The aim is to help explore and understand feelings.

EMDR is a Recognised therapy recommended on the NICE guidelines for treatment of trauma. Although originally developed to help resolution of major trauma it is now widely used for many different problems, including stress, anxiety, depression, loss.

I have been practicing EMDR since 2007 and have found it to be a very valuable approach with many clients.
